Free Health Resources for Grades 3-6
We are supposed to teach health, but that isn't a subject that usually gets curriculum updates. Today I want to share with you two free assignments and a website I use for research. Both assignments are available in my Teacher's Notebook and my Teachers Pay Teachers stores. They each include rubrics for easy grading.
If
you don’t have a set of health books on body systems, I recommend KidsHealth.org. I have used this site for health resources
and also as evidence in persuasive writing units. The main page has sections for parents,
children, teens, and educators.

Organ Research Page
Today's Friday Freebie is a two-page mini-research project that I give my students for help. The first page is a list of questions and the second is the rubric I use for grading.
Some years I have made this a group project and other years an independent one. I always have students give short oral presentations for projects like these. I let them have a buddy stand with them and hold any visuals. (My students love to help each other give presentations, and it makes it more comfortable for beginning public speakers.)

Healthy Habits Poster Project
I enjoy teaching the systems of the human body to my fourth graders. This year my group started out a little more squeamish than most, but I can see them start to become fascinated.
I have two goals for this unit:
1. Identify the organs for each of five body systems: digestive, respiratory, immune, circulatory and nervous.
2. Explain how to take care of your body.
The Healthy Habits Poster Project is a free mini research project that can be used as a culminating project to any health unit or as a stand alone project for students who need enrichment. This product contains an assignment sheet with a rubric for the students, a template for a works cited page, and a list of online resources. Common Core Standards are listed for this project.
You can download the Healthy Habits Poster Project here at my Teachers Pay Teachers store and also at my Teacher's Notebook store.
